People used to stare at me alot in my hometown after my brain injury on account of the fact that I struggled to walk and talk. They are not staring anymore and even if they are I hope they enjoy what they see nowadays. We really should not judge others on what we see.

I don't understand the marijuana is connected to schizophrenia literature It's impossible to separate the type of person who's predisposed to both from the marijuana causing the schizophrenia. Even time course won't do it. Any natural experiment that does this?
Marijauna is actually a pretty serious drug. The evidence of its connection to schizophrenia is overwhelming, as well as lack of attention, memory loss, depression, social isolation and paranoia. Alcohol is also terrible, but no one except serious alcoholics are defensive about…
@RecoveryDoctor @chrisaikenmd @ScottMuirMD Exactly! The abstract states, "MDMA-assisted psychotherapy has an effect size...2-3 times higher than...existing antidepressant treatments". Well, of course they're way higher! These trials are essentially open-label, which is guaranteed to inflate the effect size.
@sulmoney In Victoria BC, where I practice, patients will generally tell psychiatrists exactly what they want to hear. Most are quite terrified of the system ... some pretend they are taking their drugs but do not and others beg to come off them with no help from psychiatry…

Maryanne Demasi nails it. Antidepressants should never be sold over the counter. These are serious, mind and body altering drugs and NOT a daily vitamin. They are linked to violence, suicide, akathisia, sexual dysfunction, and can be hard to get off them.

Exactly right. The study does NOT mention ‘antipsychotics’, which is exactly why I pointed out that @pash22 was wrong to claim it showed that untreated people died more often. (Rude to try and discredit people you disagree with by claiming they have not read the paper).

News just in: a friend from my university days I kept in touch with periodically who knew nothing of my lived experience has just been diagnosed bipolar after presenting psychotic - put on same drug (Aripiprazole). Cause? A built-up reaction to a recent divorce & job loss etc

Infuriatingly clueless. “Relapse” after antidepressants mostly is due to medical error (failure to taper) resulting in withdrawal symptoms. Lewis et al was confounded by this. Or is @GeorgeKirov1 suggesting that ECT is high-risk, resulting in iatrogenic damage?
Relaspe after successful ECT is high: 37% after 6 months and 51% after 12 months. But is this a problem for ECT? This is what happens if you stop various antidepressants and take placebo instead: 41% relapse on average as summarised in the 2003 Lancet review:
