Never work with someone who is ** this ** unprofessional and cannot protect his employees’ privacy. The employee definitely has wrong expectations, but sharing his 1-1 email publicly is a transgression.

I usually agree with Garry but this is idealistic. 95% of CS majors can grind hard on all of these things but 95% companies want the Stanford MIT kid with Google Stripe Jane Street on their resume, lob some leetcode at them, and make them build CRUD apps.

A massive “what really matters” for me was when in 2007, I snuck into an MIT CS class (probability theory) thanks to a friend. I expected to hear something profound. But the material was almost exactly what I had studied the previous semester in my university in Hungary.

Tech layoffs are a reminder that the US H1B system badly needs reform. Employees who helped build widely used and valued products deserve better than to scramble for a job or need to leave. Grace periods should be extended and the time to green cards should be much faster.
