The real cost to the state from oil and gas is our kids health, the quality of our water, the cost of cleanup. Claiming that the oil and gas industry can't afford to properly insure against its damages is frankly irresponsible.
Senator Sharer wrongly claims that utility bills are going up. In fact the public regulation commission just authorized an 8% reduction in PNM bills thanks to the closure of expensive polluting coal and its replacement with all renewables and battery storage. #nmleg
@EmnrdNM rightly indicates that the financial risks of wildly under insured oil and gas extractors far outweighs any actual payments industry has to make towards those insurance policies. Industry only pays a $250,000 blanket bond to cover the risks from their polluting wells.
